Welcome to our garden, Sausalito Garden Hydrosol
We’re so proud of our small but mighty micro-farm planted right next to Botnia HQ in Sausalito, California, and we love sharing monthly garden updates with you through social media. You’ve seen our garden through the seasons, but have you ever wondered what our micro-farm smells like?
Introducing Sausalito Garden Hydrosol! We’ve had an abundance of growth at our micro-farm this year and we’re so excited to launch not just one, but two amazing summer hydrosols! Even though hydrosols are distilled in our alembic still in the same way for all plants, the benefits of each hydrosol will differ depending on the plant used. Learn the benefits of our new Sausalito Garden Hydrosol and how to incorporate it into your skincare routine.
About the distillation
The inspiration behind this special hydrosol was to capture the scent of Botnia’s garden and the herbal actions and skin benefits of the plants. From our flower-filled micro-farm nestled in the Golden Gate foothills of Sausalito comes this unique distillation of lavender, clary sage, and coveted roses. Grown and tended with dedication to beauty and sustainability, these flowers thrive in our ecosystem, providing natural skin healing and protection.
While we do grow all of these botanicals in our garden, in this batch of hydrosol, the roses come from our spring 2023 harvest and clary sage from our summer 2023 harvest. The lavender distilled in this special tonic comes from our friends in Healdsburg, CA at Sophie’s Five Acres farm harvested by our team on a warm summer day. This hydrosol was harvested with so much love; we hope you feel the magic and experience the beauty and benefits of our micro-farm with every spritz of this refreshing hydrosol.
Key benefits of our botanicals for the skin
This new blend of botanicals is a mixture of roses, clary sage (that we’ve been nurturing for the last two years!), and lavender from our team harvest in Healdsburg, CA.
Rose is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from environmental stressors and promotes cell renewal. It’s also known for its moisturizing and toning effects, beneficial for dry and mature skin.
Clary sage is a natural astringent that helps to balance oil production, tighten pores, and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also has antiseptic properties that can help to prevent and reduce blemishes. In aromatherapy, clary sage is also hormone-balancing. This plant takes two years to produce flowers and we’ve been patiently waiting to see this incredible blossom! This hydrosol is contraindicated for pregnancy, as clary sage essential oil has the potential to cause uterine contractions. We don’t use any clary sage essential oils in this product, but we include this contraindication out of an abundance of caution. (Sorry, mamas!)
Lavender is known for its calming and healing properties and is a perfect remedy for sensitive and troubled skin. It helps to soothe irritation, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation.
Together, these botanicals work to nourish, hydrate, and rejuvenate the skin, leaving it feeling soft, smooth, and refreshed.
How to use Sausalito Garden Hydrosol
Hydrosols can be used in place of a toner after cleansing in your skincare routine. This special tonic is indicated for sensitive skin, inflammatory responses, and is even great for sunburns or after-sun care because of its soothing properties. Perfect for nighttime use as its gentle scent will help to aromatically calm the nerves.
Like any of our hydrosols, you can use it as a refreshing pick-me-up throughout the day. This hydrosol is like having summer in a bottle!
The artwork of Sausalito Garden Hydrosol
When we were thinking about the illustration we wanted to use for this hydrosol, we immediately thought of the original artwork of our Polish artist, Dominika. Inspired by our micro-farm, featuring our greenhouse with plants hanging from the roof, surrounded by the many plants we grow in our garden. This beautiful illustration captures the magic of our home garden and the essence we’ve captured inside the bottle. Check out our Q&A with Dominika here.
When you use this hydrosol, we hope you’re transported to our micro-farm and feel the love that went into this special summer tonic.
Xo,
Botnia
